Grant Program to Aid Jenkintown Business Owners

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Merchants, property owners can apply for matching funds to improve local façades

The Jenkintown Community Alliance (JCA) is administering a Façade Investment Grant Program with funds obtained through the Community Revitalization Program of Montgomery County. The program provides funding for property or business owners who are interested in upgrading or restoring the exterior of their buildings and/or businesses within the Jenkintown Business Improvement District (BID). Funds offered by the program will match up to 33 percent of the businesses’ investment with limits based on project scope. The funding may be used for a variety of new enhancements including signs, sign hardware, awnings, lighting, exterior painting, restoration of architectural elements, masonry repair, window replacement and other storefront improvements. Funds from the program cannot be used for existing or ongoing projects.

“I am excited about the prospect of making local building façades more attractive to customers, and the community at large. This is a great opportunity to use funding resources that improve the community and help businesses,” Linda Kligman, Executive Director of the JCA, said.

All proposed improvement projects must meet JCA-approved design guidelines to be eligible for grant program funds. Interested parties may obtain an information packet containing design guidelines and a project application at the offices of the Jenkintown Community Alliance at 201 York Road (Suite 3B), Jenkintown. The deadline for applications is December 31, 2009. All applications will be reviewed by the Jenkintown Community Alliance Design Committee to assure that each proposed project meets all program requirements.

The JCA will hold a free information session on Tuesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. at Midgard Properties at 305 York Road, Suite 301. Those interested in attending the session should RSVP to the JCA at 215-517-5507
